Reverend John W. Brewster, Senior Pastor
The Pastor serves as the chief shepherd and overseer of the Church, feeding, leading and nurturing the sheep. The Pastor’s main responsibilities are to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the Church.
A tenured member of the church for more than 30 years, Mrs. Tucker is an Entrepreneur and a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She has owned and operated several small businesses in the Asheville area, including a catering and florist business. She is married to Charles Tucker and they are the proud parents of two children. Mrs. Tucker has held numerous positions within the Church including President of the Sanctuary Choir, Superintendent of Sunday School, Church Clerk, Chair of the Program and Food Committee. In addition to her current position serving as the Church Administrator, she is also the Business Administrator.
The Business Administrator’s primary function is to assist in the planning, directing, managing, and overseeing of the activities and operations of the Church and its various ministries and auxiliaries. The Church is dedicated to ensuring a safe, peaceful and tranquil environment while providing the opportunity for everyone to enjoy a high level of spiritual connection with God to those seeking to worship and connect with God on a more intimate basis. The Business Administrator supervises and manages the Church staff with direction and instruction from the Pastor. All requests for assistance from the Pastor and the Church are channeled through the Administrator to process in accordance with procedure.
A former Executive Secretary for the City of Newton, North Carolina, Ms. Wright-Bryant has held various clerical positions and currently works for the Church part time.
The Administrative Assistant provides general administrative and clerical support to the Church, to include preparing the bulletins, maintaining calendars, planning and scheduling meetings, booking travel arrangements, preparing and mailing letters and correspondences, maintaining and updating the membership roster; she works under the supervision of the Business Administrator.
A former Veteran of the United States Military Service, Mr. Workman is a full time employee for the Veterans Association. In addition to being a member of the Board of Deacons, Mr. Workman humbly fulfills the very important task of maintaining the interior of the Church’s building along with volunteers Sister Carrie Me Hudson and Brother Wallace Brownlee.
The Custodian is responsible for the cleaning and overall maintenance of the Church’s sanctuary and its associated facilities. The Custodian must have a general understanding and fondness for people as the Custodian is generally our Visitor’s first human contact with our Church. People struggling with life are generally substantially impacted by the first person they meet with coming to our Church. As such, an essential requirement for the Custodian is being a born again Christian, filled with the spirit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
A member of the Church since 1992, Ms. Bowden works for Mission Memorial Hospital and is married with two children. In addition to her current role as Church Clerk, she has served on numerous ministries and committees to include but not limited to: former member of the Trustee Board, Constitution and By-Laws Committee, Program and Publicity Ministry, Gospel Choir and Youth Advisor.

The Board of Trustees is the Church’s governing body representing the financial and property interest of the Church. The Board assumes responsibilities as a whole as well as assigns specific duties to individual members.
The Trustees are in charge of budgetary matters, defines a budget and appropriations at the beginning of each year and develops a uniform system to accept offerings and donations, pay bills and make purchases. All revenues and expenditures are documented by the Board of Trustees and evaluated periodically during Trustee meetings.
TREASURER: Charlie Tucker
Mr. Tucker is a long standing member of the Church and a retired Southern Railway employee. He is married to Claudia Tucker and they have two children along with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Treasurer is responsible for presenting an accurate accounting of all monies collected and counted at the Church.
It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to handle all monies received by the Church and to deposit money in the Church accounts. The disbursement of all Church money shall be in accordance with the budget as voted ad approved by the Church. As audit of the Treasurer’s books may be done annually. The Treasurer also serves as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
MINISTERS: Serving as a right hand to the Senior Pastor and assisting in carrying out the ministry of the Church are the following disciples from right to left:
1. Minister Jeff “JJ” McMickens: A Entrepreneuer in the Transportation and Real Estate Market, Minister McMickens is knowledgeable and continues to research and study God’s word. Called into the ministry in 2015, he is a highly sought minister in the area.
2. Minister Tony Shivers: A native of Asheville with strong family ties to the Church, young Minister Shivers has a full understanding of what it means to live in the flesh – forsaking the world to accept Jesus as his personal Savior, he responded to God’s call to the ministry in 2015. His testimony continues to draw others still lost in seeking wordly pleasures into the Church.

The 6th Chapter of Acts tell us that after the death and accession of Jesus Christ, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily administration. The 12 disciples called the multitude of the disciples and stated that it is not reasonable that the disciples should leave the word of God and serve tables. The multitude of the disciples were then asked to look among themselves and seek out seven (7) men of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, to whom could be appointed the business of taking care of “this business.” (See Acts 6:1-8 and 1 Timothy 3:1-8).
The primary and essential qualification to serve as a Deacon is: (1) being filled with the Holy Spirit; (2) possession of immense wisdom; and ((3) an impeccable reputation of honesty and fair dealings.

The Deaconess Ministry working under the spiritual guidance of the Pastor and the deacons, primary function is to meet the needs of the Church by promoting spiritual growth. The Deaconess Ministry cares for and assists the needs of the overall congregation as articulated in Romans 16:1-2, which reads as follows: “I commend unto you Phoebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea. That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you…” Take care of the communion cloths, clean, prepare and restore the utensils used after each Communion Service; and oversee the dressing of the Baptismal Candidates for baptism; keep an account of the use and return of laundry of the Baptism attire; and prepare and serve the Repast Dinner for our bereaved families; and Given counsel and serve as role models for the young ladies of our Church and the Community; and Support the Pastor and the vision of the ministry.
The Usher ministry regularly participates in worship services and assists with literature distribution, welcoming, directing and seating guests and others as needed.
The Christian men of our Church come together in brotherhood to build up and help the men of the Church become spiritual leaders and provide an avenue of outreach to men in the community.
The Sunday School Superintendent works in close coordination with the Pastor to ensure adequate staffing of Sunday School teachers. The Superintendent is responsible for:
a. Recruiting volunteers to serve in Sunday School Ministry.
b. Assist the Pastor with the development and implementation of a training program for Sunday School Leaders
c. Obtaining information on Sunday School curricula, inform teachers of selection; order curricula
d. Oversee distribution of Sunday School material or store it in a designated location for easy access by leaders.
e. Recognize, encourage and motivate Sunday School workers.
f. Communicate information regarding goals, special days, etc.
g. Oversee operation of Sunday School ministry (teachers on hand, lessons available, start/end on time, record procedure followed/forms completed, etc.).
Music is a bedrock of worship in our Church. The Bible clearly teaches that those who know and love God, and who have been transformed by his saving grace, are to be salt, light and a testimony for him by living a transformed life that glorifies God’s Holy nature. Our musical team exemplifies this spiritual doctrine. Their spiritual transformation carries over in a practical way into the music and worship of the Church. This embodies the primary principle of our Church, that through music, we reach the hearts and lives of people in a way that will encourage them to live lives of blameless integrity. In our worship services, we feature music of traditional hymns and lively gospel songs. The adults, men, and children’s choirs sing choral arrangements and spirited anthems. Our musical team use music that honors and reflects God’s holy, pure and glorious character. t is our belief that “worship is the entertainment of God, not the entertainment of man.” Our place is to glorify him together Reflecting this belief, the focus of our music and our worship is upon the glory of God and his response – joy and rejoicing in heaven at the sincere praise of his people.
Director: Savonya S. Gilliam
A native of Asheville and the daughter of a Pastor, Ms. Gilliam has strong musical talents, possessing an Alto voice that is uniquely her own. She is a widow with one son.
The Director organizes and leads the music ministry of the Church and assists the Pastor during worship services.
Organist: Yannick “Nikki” Brewster
Born in New Orleans, Yannick Brewster is the second of four children born to the union of Rev. John Brewster and Brenda Effinger. Yannick is a graduate of Asheville High School and subsequently studied music at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. A true born again Christian, possessing immense musical talents including the ability to play by sheet music and by ear, he loves, is deeply committed and dedicated to playing the keyboard, piano and organ for the Church.
The primary mission of the Sanctuary Choir is weekly participation in worship through leading congregational songs and providing choral music during the service as a medium of prayer, praise and reflection. A second mission is to present major musical works sung by people of faith in a sacred space. For the least few years the Choir has dedicated one concert to raising awareness on the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Our children are our most precious resource and we believe that by investing early in their spiritual education, the gospel can be shared through generations to come. We invest in our children by encouraging them to join and become members and participants in our Youth and Children Choirs, where they enjoy learning about singing praises to God.
Every man of the Church is encouraged to become an active member of the Men’s Choir. The Men’s Choir give glory to God through common purpose and mission and in so doing, provides an outlet to other young men in the community to use their God given talents in the service of God.

This Committee has overall responsibility for ensuring that the Church continues to offer programs and events to enhance the Sunday Church Service throughout the year. The Committee is responsible for offering and directing annual Christmas programs and any other programs and schedule of events as approved by the Church. the Committee generally offers programs in celebration of Black History Month, Women’s Day, Men’s Day, October Halloween Fest, Children Outings as well as a host other activities and programs. Sub-committees for any of these duties may be appointed as needed, and activities coordinated with the Pastor and Business Administrator.
The Committee is also responsible for ensuring that important events in the life of the Church such as Church Anniversary, Pastor Anniversary, Revivals, Deacon ordination, etc., are reported in the local paper, radio, and other social medial outlets.
The Transportation ministry is responsible for safely transporting participants to and from church related or church sponsored activities.
This Committee record messages and special music presented during regular church worship services and occasional special services and all services directed by the Senior Pastor; keep an organized library of CD and DVD recordings, provide duplicate CD’s and DVD’s for the audio/video ministry, make sure ll equipment is in working order and all supplies are available, providing recordings for non-members and for those members who are unable to attend services or who desire to share messages with others.
We strive through our Audio/Video to enrich the lives of Believers who cannot attend worship services and to reach the un-churched with preaching, teaching and singing by way of audio and video.
This Committee is composed of heads of all Ministries. The Committee meets quarterly. The Committee proposes goals and actions to achieve the objectives of the Church. Coordinates and supports activities into a total Church effort of building the Church. Evaluates progress and suggests improvements. The ultimate goal of this Committee is to further the cause of Christ. It is not intended to replace any other Committee, deacons, Trustees, etc.
FOOD AND OUTREACH
This Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating with the Program/Publicity Committee when fellowship events involve meals.
This Committee is responsible for seeing that appropriate flowers grace the pulpit and sanctuary each Sunday. This Committee is also responsible for ensuring that outdoor signage reflects the activities for the month to broaden the Church’s outreach ministry to the motoring and pedestrian public.
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE
A “Strategic Plan” is a document used to communicate goals, the actions needed to achieve those goals and all of the other critical elements developed during the planning exercise. It is a disciplined effort that produces fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what we are, who we serve, what we do, and why we do it, with a focus on the future. While it is a blueprint to achieve a future state, it is also dynamic; allowing us to evaluate as we go and make necessary adjustments. Under this plan, our Church’s ultimate goal is to Retain, Reclaim and Recruit.
The purpose of this Committee is to ease the burden of the bereaved family by providing a meal for them and for their relatives This is done on the day of the funeral. This ministry is extended to a the family of a deceased church members or in the event of the death of a church’s member’s father, mother, sister, brother or child. The meal is normally lunch and the church staff along with the family’s deacon and wife are invited to attend. Specific Responsibilities of the Bereavement Committee are:
a. Provide food for the bereaved family; food maybe provided by Church members upon request.
b. Meals are served at the Church’s Convention Hall (aka “the Hut”), a pleasant atmosphere, where there is adequate seating and necessary families.
c. The Committee will prepare the Convention Hall and place flowers if necessary, in order to receive the family.
d. The Committee will serve the prepared food and insure that the family is welcomed and comfortable.
e. Upon completion of the meal and after the family has had ample time to visit, the Committee will clean the kitchen and restore the Convention Hall to order.
